Automated Measurement of Liquid-liquid Equilibria using Raman Spectroscopy and Single Droplet Tracking in Microfluidic Plug Flow

Raman spectroscopy has proven to be a powerful tool for the highly efficient and automated determination of liquid-liquid equilibria (LLE) in parallel microfluidic flows. However, stable flow regime cannot established numerous industrially relevant aqueous-organic LLE systems since they tend form plug These flows have advantage that inner circulations plugs enhance mass transfer, leading much faster equilibration. For moving plugs, main challenge is techniques are not capable collect sufficient signal quantification. Therefore, we developed measurement setup In our setup, capillary moved against direction hold one either aqueous or organic phase laser focus during measurement. Full automation premixing components, calculation lengths speeds measurements both phases. The procedure successfully validated by showing excellent agreement with data from literature ternary system acetone – toluene water at t = 25 °C. thus enables access mixtures.
